Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs and chest wall, it is causes by inhalation of asbestos fibre.

It is difficult to detect the cancer at early stage because their is no symptoms until it reach an advanced stage.

An immunotherapy drug,
Pembrolizumab seems to be effective in the treatment of mesothelioma.

First-line therapy is the standard treatment for mesothelioma, according to Dr.Evan Alley, researchers have studied different drugs but have not seen positive results.

Pembrolizumab is a checkpoint inhibitor, it is designed to fight cancer by defeating process that cancer cells use to avoid being destroyed by the immune system.

Common adverse effect of the drug are: dry mouth, nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

Causes of frequent urination in women

Urination is the release of urine from the bladder, frequent urination is the need to urinate more than normal.

Cleveland Clinic said the average person should urinate between six to eight times a day.

Some of the causes of frequent urination are: drinking too much water, diabetes, overactive bladder, urinary tract infection, pregnancy, menopause, obesity, weak pelvic floor organs and inflammatory bladder disorder.

Treatment for frequent urination depends on the cause, visit your doctor anytime you experience frequent urination.

Previous exposure to flaviviruses can enhance effects of Zika

Flavivirus is a group of related viruses, some of them are West Nile virus, dengue virus, yellow fever virus, Zika virus and others.

A new study that used human samples tested in mice discovered that prior infection with any flavivirus can increase the chance of Zika infection.

Exposure to one of these virus leads to more disease when exposed to related virus. Zika is spreading very fast in regions that is prone to other flaviviruses.

Human antibodies were transferred from infected human to mice to expose them to Zika virus.

The mice not giving antibodies survived Zika infection while those that received infected human antibodies did not.

Health benefits of keeping dogs

Dog is one of the common pets in the world, dogs exist in a wide range of colours and sizes, common examples of dogs are: German Shepherd, Doberman pinscher, Beagle, Cocker spaniel, Collie and Welsh corgi.

Effects of marathons on your kidney

Marathon is a long distance running race with an official distance of 42, 195 kilometers, running marathon can harm your kidney.

Kidney may not be able to filter waste during marathon as s result of reduction in blood flow to the kidney during the race.

Dehydration during the race can cause increase in temperature, the body temperature can rise to 104f during the race, the heat stress can damage the kidney.

Waste product like creatinine in the blood and protein in the urine are the common kidney injury experienced by those involved in marathon.

Marathon related kidney damage may be caused by rise in runners body temperature and dehydration which prevents blood flow to kidney. This last for two days because the kidney will recover after the marathon.

Body Mass Index alone cannot dictate your health status

Body Mass Index BMI is a measure of body size based on a person's weight and height, it is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in meters, then divide the answer by your height again.

Researchers at the University of Alberta state that BMI is not an indicator of how healthy you are and the metrics of judging obesity need to be changed.

According to Dr Sharma, someone with a BMI of 30 and above is said to be obese by the metrics but they may be perfectly healthy when you check their body metabolism.

People with BMI less than 30 may have problems that would improve if they lose weight.

BMI shows how big you are not how sick, it is not good to judge health status based on BMI alone.

Facts about cesarean section

Cesarean section is the delivery of a baby or babies through a surgical incision in the mother's abdomen wall and uterus.

It is often performed when vaginal delivery would put the mother, baby or babies at risk.

• More than 30 percent of all deliveries are by cesarean section.
• You can have vaginal birth if you wish after the first cesarean section.
• You can breastfeed your baby 20 minutes after the operation in a comfortable position.
• Vaginal birth does not make you a super woman, whichever way you give birth to your baby, be proud of yourself.
• Muscles are not cut during cesarean section, they were pushed apart.

Polyphenols are micronutrients found in whole foods like spices, fruits, vegetables and cocoa, it prevents progression of diabetes and some cancer.

Insulin is the hormone that stores excess blood sugar before it damage blood vessels and vital organs in the body.

According to Dr Tim Bond, of Tea Advisory Panel, tea is the second most commonly consumed after water. Drink tea everyday to reduce your risk of diabetes.

Too much protein can reduce your lifespan

Latest research states that high protein diet at 50 years could reduce your lifespan, changes in metabolism dictates changes in diet.

According to Steve Simpson, a professor of life sciences at the University of Sydney,  the standard balanced diet suggested by National Health Service is five different fruits and vegetables a day, carbohydrates and few portions of protein.

The different classes of food are useful for proper development, but we must change them as we grow.
Eating diet high in protein from age 50 reduces lifespan, the Okinawa islanders of Japan eat less of animal protein and more of plant based diet, they have more of people who lived beyond 100 years.

Ovarian damage is caused by chemotherapy, the new method will allow a slice of a woman's ovarian tissue that has eggs be removed and preserved before chemotherapy.

The preserved tissue is transplant after chemotherapy and the woman can become pregnant without in-vitro fertilization.

How breast implants caused cancer

Breast implant is the use of artificial material to change the size, shape and colour of breast. It may cause deadly cancer.

Food and Drug Administration FDA said women with breast implants are at risk of developing anaplastic large cell lymphoma ALCL - a cancer of Immune system cells.

ALCL develop in women with textured implants than those that used smooth-surfaced implants. According to Aesthetic Surgery Journal, chronic inflammation in the scar tissue around the breast implants may trigger the immune response to the implants.

Regular MRI scan can detect leaks from silicon gel implant, women with breast implants are advised to follow their doctor's advice and instructions. Regular medical check can also help, swelling and pain from the breast must be report in the hospital without delay.

Breastfeeding is not linked to baby's IQ

Breastfeeding is the feeding of babies with breast milk, breastfed children  show normal response to stimuli at age 3 according to new research.

Their is no link between breastfeeding and intelligence quotient, researchers from University College of Dublin measured the cognitive abilities of 8000 children who were breast fed and discovered that breast milk does not improve their intellect.

National Health Service NHS advocates exclusive 6 months breastfeeding for babies, food can be added from 6 months.

Breastfeeding is good for mothers because a breastfeeding mother can burn more than 500 calories a day.

Contraceptive pills may prevent some cancers

Contraceptive pills are drugs that contain hormones (estrogen and progesterone) used to prevent pregnancy.

Latest research from the University of Aberdeen shows that women who had used oral contraceptive pills may not have ovarian, endometrial and colorectal cancer.

The study found no connection between the use of contraceptive pills and risk of having cancer later in life.
Central for Disease and Control and Prevention says 16 percent of women in the United States are using oral contraceptive pills.

The protective benefits of using contraceptive pills during reproductive age can last for 30 years.

Chocolate boots brain power

Chocolate is made from cocoa butter and sugar, there are different types of chocolate, some of them are: milk, sweet, dark, brown and white chocolate.

Cocoa contains flavonoids that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidants that control insulin resistance.

Tryptophan in chocolate is used by brain to produce serotonin and phenylethylalanine that encourages feeling of happiness, attraction and excitement.

Valeric acid in chocolate reduces stress and pain, theobromine also relieve throaty tickle.

Eating chocolate improves memory, aids concentration, prevents high blood pressure and  protects the skin.

Symptoms of metastatic breast cancer

Metastatic breast cancer is an advanced cancer that has spread to other organs in the body, if initial cancer treatments failed it can result into stage 4 cancer which can spread to brain, bones, lungs and liver.

Symptoms of the spread to bones are: pain, fractures, swelling and spinal cord compression.

Symptoms of the spread to liver are: loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, bleeding, skin rash and pain.

Symptoms of the spread to brain are: headache, seizure, blurred vision, irrational behavior and nausea.

If it spreads to lungs it can cause chest pain, coughing of blood and shortness of breath.

Treatment
Systemic therapy or medication like chemotherapy and hormone therapy are required for treating metastatic cancer.

Regular exercise benefits Parkinson's patients

Parkinson's disease is a progressive movement disorder, common symptoms are: slowness of movement, stiffness of the limbs and trunk, shaking and rigidity.

Researchers found that Parkinson's patients that engaged in regular exercise experienced slow declines in health-related quality of life HRQL and movement.

Increasing exercise by 30 minutes per week improves HRQL and movement. According to Rafferty, people who are not engage in any form of exercise should start now to reduce decline in quality of life and movement that can occur.

Engaging in any form of exercise is better than doing nothing, Parkinson patients are encouraged to get involve in any physical activities that is convenient for them.

Benefits of basal insulin

Insulin is a hormone that is responsible for regulation and storage of glucose and fat in the body, diabetes prevents the body from producing and proper use of insulin.

Diabetics patients depend on insulin injection to increase the level of insulin in their body, different types of insulin are available for managing diabetes.

Basal insulin keeps glucose levels under control when you are sleeping or fasting, it feeds your cells with constant stream of glucose to burn for energy all the time.

It manages blood sugar easily because it has no peak time, this can leads to variation in meal and injection time.

Compared to other types of insulin, it causes less weight gain and it requires one to two injections in a day; this depends on your body size, hormone levels, and diet.

Stem-cell therapy may be effective for erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is inability to get erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. According to Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases, about 12 percent of men under the age of 60, and 22 percent of men between 60 and 69 have erectile dysfunction.

Common cause of erectile dysfunction are: diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, anxiety, depression and stress.

Stem-cell therapy is the process of injecting the patients' own stem cell into the erectile tissue of his penis, patients' stem cells is always derived from his abdominal fat cells.

Dr Martha Haahr discovered that within 6 months of stem-cell, 8 out of 21 men treated were able to have sexual intercourse.

Current treatments for erectile dysfunction like injections, penile implant and PDE5 have side effects, researchers are looking for safer treatment. Steam-like cell therapy is safer in animal trials and will be safe for men.

Prevention of colon cancer

Colon is the lowest part of the digestive system, colon cancer is the growth of cancer from the colon or rectum. Common symptoms of colon cancer are: fatigue, weight loss, blood in the stool and change in bowel movement.

Colonoscopy is one of the best way to treat colon cancer if it is discovered early. This type of cancer can develop without symptoms it is good to go for regular screening for early detection.

This cancer is common in people with sedentary lifestyle and tobacco smokers. Eating food low in fibre, high in fat, calories and preservatives may increase the risk of colon cancer.

It can be prevented by:
• regular screening
• regular exercise
• maintaining healthy weight
• eating balanced diet
• drinking enough water
• avoiding  alcohol and tobacco products

Pregnancy complications linked to cancer treatment

The number of cancer survivors increases daily as a result of steadily improvement in cancer treatment, chemotherapy and radiation therapy can affect fertility levels of women who survived cancer.

Team of researchers discovered that women who survived cancer have higher risk for low birth weight babies, preterm birth, and cesarean delivery.

Women can have complications during pregnancy but cancer survivors are prone to these pregnancy complications, it is good to give your doctor details about your cancer history during antenatal.

Random DNA mistakes causes cancers

Cancer center scientists reported that unpredictable DNA copying errors is responsible for two - thirds of the mutation that cause cancer. This is confirmed by DNA sequencing and epidemiologic data across the globe.

According to professor John Hopkins Kimmel, anytime a normal cell divides to form two new cells, it makes multiple mistakes, these mistakes are source of cancer mutation that have been ignored in the past. This revealed the reasons why people that embraced healthy lifestyle are having cancer.

Researchers studies 32 types of cancers and estimate that 66 percent of cancer mutations occur from coping mistakes, 29 percent from environmental factors and 5 inherited.

Living healthy lifestyle can reduce rates of cancer mutations because mutation can not be stopped from taking place in the body.

Fast diagnosis for tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is an infectious bacteria disease that usually affects the lungs, it can also affects other parts of the body. It spreads through the air when an infected person talks, coughs, sneezes, yawns or laughs.

British scientists have discovered better ways of diagnosing tuberculosis by the use of genome sequencing to isolate different strains of the disease this leads to better and faster diagnosis  of tuberculosis and quick recovery.

Use of modern technology for treating tuberculosis  makes the patients to spend days for treatment instead of initial spending of months. This new development  can blot out tuberculosis from every parts of the world.

HIV lesions treatments

HIV alters the body's immune system and this can leads to development of many health problem like skin infections.

Lesions are abnormal growths on the skin, it can grow on the skin of people who are not suffering from HIV, but it is common in people who are HIV positive.

It may develop as side effect of HIV medication, CD4 count is a blood test that measure the level of white blood cells in the body, if CD4 count is very low, the rate of developing skin lesions will be very high.

Common HIV skin lesions:
• Bullous impetigo
• Human papillomavirus (HPV) warts
• Prurigo nodularis
• Molluscum contagiosum
• Herpes simplex lesions
• Kaposi's sarcoma

Treatments
1. Taking antiviral medication according to Doctor's prescription may increase CD4 cells.
2. Eating balanced diet
3. Getting enough rest
4. Regular exercise

Warm planet may increase diabetes

Global warming is increase in temperature of the earth surface, warm temperature will deactivate the use of brown fat in the body.

Diabetes occurs when the amount of sugar in the blood is too much because the body cannot use it properly.

If the global warming continues it may increase diabetes by making brown cell inactive for a long period of time.

Brown fat is very active in winter, when the temperature is cold. People with type 2 diabetes can be expose to cold regularly to improve the use of insulin. It can also leads to production of new brown fat cells in the body.

You can save a life

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR is an emergency method of chest compression with artificial ventilation to restore breathing and blood circulation in someone who is in cardiac arrest.

CPR is necessary during injury, electric shock and heart attack. Irregular heart beat will prevent blood flow to different organs in the body, this is dangerous if it occurs for a long period of time.

The aim of performing CPR is to circulate oxygenated blood to the brain, heart and other organs in the body. Proper CPR can preserve the brain and save lives.

When CPR is mandatory
• When someone collapse suddenly.
• No breathing sign.
• No response from shaking.
• When electrocution injury occur.
• After fire accident.

How to do CPR
• Ensure that CPR is needed before you start.
• Place the person flat on his back and open his airway.
• Check for a pulse at the carotid artery in the neck.
•Give rescuer breathing.
• Compress the chest until the person is breathing and has independent of compression
• Call your doctor.

How HIV affects the immune system

Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus that causes HIV and later AIDS. Early signs of HIV are: fever, joint pain, sore throat and skin rashes.

A T-cell is a type of lymphocyte - white blood cell that defend the body against disease, HIV infects a cell by attaching itself to T-cell, multiplies its virus and destroy the T-cell.

CD4 count shows the strength of one's immune system which is between 500 1500 for healthy people, being infected with HIV without treatment will reduce the count below 200.

HIV  exposes the infected person to opportunistic  infections like: pneumonia, toxoplasmosis, thrush, and tuberculosis.

Presently, there is no cure for HIV. Antiretroviral therapy is recommended for people living with HIV virus.

Common side effects of Antiretroviral drugs are: glucose intolerance, kidney failure, hepatitis of the liver, insulin resistance, osteoporosis, anemia and inflamed pancreas.
