Exercise prevents heart aging

Exercise can reverse damage to sedentary, aging hearts and prevent risk of future heart failure. To reap the most benefit, the exercise regimen should begin by late middle age (before age 65), when the heart apparently retains some plasticity and ability to remodel itself, according to the findings by researchers at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine (IEEM), which is a collaboration between UT Southwestern Medical Center and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.

The exercise needs to be performed four to five times a week. Two to three times a week was not enough, the researchers found in an earlier study. Based on a series of studies performed the team over the past 5 years.Sedentary aging can lead to a stiffening of the muscle in the heart's left ventricle, the chamber that pumps oxygen-rich blood back out to the body. When the muscle stiffens, you get high pressure and the heart chamber doesn't fill as well with blood. In its most severe form, blood can back up into the lungs. That's when heart failure develops.

Earlier research by UT Southwestern cardiologists showed that left ventricular stiffening often shows up in middle age in people who don't exercise and aren't fit, leaving them with small, stiff chambers that can't pump blood as well. However, the researchers also found that the heart chamber in competitive masters-level athletes remains large and elastic, and that even four to five days of committed exercise over decades is enough for noncompetitive athletes to reap most of the benefit.

Indoor pollution from central heating, gas cookers, cleaning products, chemicals, and mold can damage lungs, trigger asthma and cause respiratory diseases.

Poor ventilation, the use of open central heating and regular use of air conditioner prevents fresh and natural air from getting to our lungs, since we spend more time indoor. Our lungs is prone to damage because of regular exposure to indoor pollution.

Caffeine acts as a respiratory stimulant that improves short-term breathing rates and the lungs' ability to stretch and expand.

Giving premature babies caffeine improves their lung function in later life, it also aids exhaling during a forced breath.

Researchers discovered that the children who were treated with caffeine performed significantly better in tests that measured their ability to breathe out.

Nivolumab drug can kill abestos cancer

Asbestos was once a popular building material, but it was discovered that exposure to it causes mesothelioma cancer.

Mesothelioma affects the lungs, and the lining surrounding the lower digestive tract. Symptoms are chest or lower back pain shortness of breath  and excessive sweating.

Nivolumab is effective for treating melanoma and kidney cancer it blocks PD-1 on the surface of T-cells, then activate immune system cells to hunt down and kill cancer cells.

Artificial womb developed for premature babies

An artificial nutrient-rich amniotic fluid has been tested on foetal lambs equivalent to 161-days old foetus.

The artificial womb can give foetus the same protection woman womb can give; synthetic amniotic fluid that is full of nutrients flows in and out of the temperature-controlled container, it creates womb environment for premature foetus to develop their vital organs like lungs from 23 to 28 weeks.

Director of the Center for Fetal Research at the Children's hospital of Philadelphia, US, said the artificial womb will prevent illness suffered by premature babies by providing a medical technology that can create womb environment.

According to Dr Alan Flake, six preterm lambs were used to test the artificial womb, they could breathed and swallowed normally.

The animal grew wool and developed properly functioning nerves and organs, the artificial womb cannot replace woman's womb, the aim of developing artificial womb is  to help premature babies

Mesothelioma is getting better with immunotherapy drug

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs and chest wall, it is causes by inhalation of asbestos fibre.

It is difficult to detect the cancer at early stage because their is no symptoms until it reach an advanced stage.

An immunotherapy drug,
Pembrolizumab seems to be effective in the treatment of mesothelioma.

First-line therapy is the standard treatment for mesothelioma, according to Dr.Evan Alley, researchers have studied different drugs but have not seen positive results.

Pembrolizumab is a checkpoint inhibitor, it is designed to fight cancer by defeating process that cancer cells use to avoid being destroyed by the immune system.

Common adverse effect of the drug are: dry mouth, nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

Tuberculosis is an infectious bacteria disease that usually affects the lungs, it can also affects other parts of the body. It spreads through the air when an infected person talks, coughs, sneezes, yawns or laughs.

British scientists have discovered better ways of diagnosing tuberculosis by the use of genome sequencing to isolate different strains of the disease this leads to better and faster diagnosis  of tuberculosis and quick recovery.
