Moderate drinking of red wine reserves ovaries

Moderate drinking of red wine can increase the chance of conceiving, there is a link between drinking of red wine and healthy ovaries that produce more eggs. Researchers studied different women of reproductive age and measured their antral follicle count- ovarian reserve.

Antral follicle count AFC is the standard way of assessing a woman’s fertility. This is the ovaries’ capacity to make healthy egg cells, which is measured by counting the antral follicles that produce them.

Women who drank moderate amounts of red wine were found to have the highest ovarian reserve. Red wine intake is associated with ovarian reserve as measured by AFC. Anti-inflammatory compound- resveratrol in red wine may be responsible for this.

Drinking small amount of red wine might reserve ovaries. Apart from red wine, healthy lifestyle and eating of balanced diet especially plant based protein can increase the chance of conceiving.

Origin of pelvic tumors in women

Some ovarian cancers start in the fallopian tubes. Ovarian cancer cells have more in common with cells covering the tips of fallopian tubes than with those on the surface of ovaries. If biomarkers can be found for these tubal cells, direct tests on tubal tissue might be able to detect ovarian cancer.

The research team plans to conduct studies that will seek to apply the current molecular biology findings to clinical practice, removing a woman's fallopian tubes, but not her ovaries, may reduce the risk of ovarian cancer in those at high risk.

The current study confirm previous results that had suggested that many high-grade serious cancers in the pelvis are preceded by abnormal cells- lesions occurring in the fallopian tubes, called serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma STIC.

Past studies in several cancer types had shown that cancer cells with different origins have different genetic profiles. Cancer cells may arise from clisertissue or may have spread to a location from another part of the body, but their genetic profile reflects the tissue of origin.

If STIC cells and ovarian cancer cells had different genetic profiles, they must have originated in different tissue types. Instead, in-depth molecular analyses of cells from different women with high-grade serous carcinoma failed to identify any genetic differences between cancer cells arising in the tubes and serous ovarian cancers occurring elsewhere in the pelvis.

Ovarian cancer is more aggressive than many other cancers because it is hard to diagnose in its earliest stage. Fewer than 50 percent of women diagnosed with the disease survive for longer than five years after their diagnoses.

Obesity linked to different cancers

There is a link between obesity and different cancers, being obese or overweight was associated with cancer.
Some of the cancers linked with obesity include: brain cancer; multiple myeloma; cancer of the esophagus; postmenopausal breast cancer; cancers of the thyroid, gallbladder, stomach, liver, pancreas, kidney, ovaries, uterus and colon.

Of all cancers, 55 percent in women and 24 percent in men were associated with overweight and obesity. Blacks and whites had higher rates of weight-related cancer than other racial or ethnic groups. Black men and American Indian/Alaska Native men had higher rates of cancer than white men.

Except for colon cancer, cancers tied to overweight and obesity increased among those younger than 75 years.
Some other risk factors are smoking of cigarettes, drinking of alcohol, genetics,
sedentary lifestyle and poor nutrition.

Drug may prevent infertility after cancer treatment

Women who are treated for cancer with radiation or chemotherapy may be rendered sterile. Some female breast cancer survivors experience premature ovarian failure, in which they lose normal function of their ovaries.

Women are born with a lifetime reserve of oocytes, or immature eggs, but those oocytes are among the most sensitive cells in the body and may be wiped out by cancer treatments.

Checkpoint protein CHK2 becomes activate when oocytes are damaged by radiation. CHK2 functions in a pathway that eliminates oocytes with DNA damage, a natural function to protect against giving birth to offspring bearing new mutations.

When the researchers irradiated mice lacking the CHK2 gene, the oocytes survived, eventually repaired the DNA damage, and the mice gave birth to healthy pups.

The new study explored whether the checkpoint 2 pathway could be chemically inhibited. There were pre-existing CHK2 inhibitor drugs that were developed, ironically enough, for cancer treatment, but they turned out not to be very useful for treating cancer.

Giving mice the inhibitor drug, a small molecule, it essentially mimicked the knockout of the checkpoint gene.
Inhibiting the checkpoint pathway, the oocytes were not killed by radiation and remained fertile, enabling birth of normal pups.

How to prepare your body for IVF

For a woman to get pregnant, her reproductive organs like ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes need to be in good condition and function properly. Conditions that affect these organs may render a woman infertile. Looking at
polycystic ovary syndrome - a condition which causes irregular or no menstruation.

Another problem is functional hypothalamic amenorrhea - a condition caused by low body weight or excessive exercise. Premature ovarian insufficiency - a condition which causes a woman's ovaries to cease to function before age 40.

Infertility in men can be determined through a semen analysis, which studies a man's sperm count, the motility and shape of sperm. If a man's testicular or ejaculatory functions are disrupted, this may cause infertility. These disruptions can be caused by
varicoceles - a condition which causes the veins on a man's testicles to overheat.

During IVF treatments, woman’s eggs are extracted and fertilized outside of her body. The resulting embryos are then implanted in her uterus. One IVF cycle lasts about two weeks, receiving IVF treatments increases a woman's chances of conceiving, it does not always result in pregnancy.

Having more than one round of IVF can increase the chance of becoming pregnant, women can prepare their body for pregnancy by getting acupuncture two to three times a week before IVF treatments.

Acupuncture leads to better blood flow, which will result in higher quality eggs. Engaging in exercise can also ease women's stress levels, which will help the process to work better. Avoid any stressful activities and reduce work load, eat balanced diet regularly especially fruits and vegetables, avoid fish. Take folic acid and vitamin D in moderation.

Plants protein can prevent early menopause

Menopause occurs when ovaries stop producing the hormone known as estrogen that controls the reproductive cycle.

Early menopause is the ending of ovarian function before age 45, it is associated with higher risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and early cognitive decline.

Scientists examined many women for two decades and discovered that those who eat more of plants protein had a 59 per cent lower risk of an early menopause than those that eat less.

They discovered that high consumption of plants protein is linked to a lower risk of early menopause. According to the new research, women can lower their risk of reaching menopause early by eating plants protein

Facts about surgical menopause

Menopause occurs when a woman has not had her period for 12 months or more. This occurs when the ovaries stop producing or produce reduced amounts of female hormone, this is common in 40s or 50s.

The ovaries are small organs situated either side of the uterus. They produce hormones, such as estrogen and
progesterone, that control a woman's menstrual cycle.

Without ovaries to release hormones, a woman will go through menopause at an earlier time. This can have both short- and long-term effects on women that they should prepare for and be aware of.

Surgical menopause, which is also known as a bilateral oophorectomy, is a procedure in which a woman's ovaries are removed.

In most cases, the procedure involve a small cut in the lower abdomen to access and remove the ovaries.
Sometimes, a doctor will perform an oophorectomy along with other gynecological surgeries, including:
hysterectomy, which is the removal of the uterus

Salpingectomy, which is the removal of the fallopian tubes that are near the
ovaries, salpingo-oophorectomy, which is the removal of both the ovaries and the fallopian tubes.

There are several reasons why a doctor may perform an oophorectomy, which induces menopause. These include:
endometriosis, non-cancerous ovarian tumors or cysts.

Dangers of pot belly

Pot belly is a sign that you are at the risk of having cancer. Some cancers are not linked to fat and weight, but the researchers found the size of the waist was significantly tied to some cancers.

These are bowel, lower oesophagus, upper stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, womb, ovaries, kidneys and postmenopausal breasts.

The highest risk was found for bowel cancer, for which adding just 8 cm (3.1 inches) to the hips was linked to an increased risk of 15 per cent.

Body fat can change the levels of sex hormones, such as oestrogen and testosterone. It can also cause levels of
insulin to rise, and lead to inflammation that increases cancer.

Being overweight or obese can increase the risk of developing some cancers,
It’s important to maintain healthy weight to reduce risk of cancer.
