Regular foot test for diabetic patients

Diabetic patients have greater risk of developing problems with their feet, due to the damage high blood sugar can cause to sensation and circulation.

Incurable foot ulcers or any injury can lead to amputation as a result of lack of sensitivity at that part of the body.

Diabetic patients must undergo annual check up, people should also perform the touch toes test to make sure their feet are still sensitive.

The test involves very lightly touching six toes, three on each foot to find out how many of the touches are felt. The touch must be gentle, light as a feather and brief.

If sensation is impaired you may not realise if minor damage has occurred and left untreated may increase the risk of infection.

Visit your doctor as soon as you discovered a cut or have any concerns about your foot and legs.
