Using mouthwash increases the risk of obesity and diabetes
Using mouthwash twice a day significantly raises the risk of obesity and developing type 2 diabetes, according to a new study. Swilling with the anti-bacterial fluid could be killing beneficial microbes which live in the mouth and protect against the conditions. People who used the product twice a day were around 55 percent more likely to develop diabetes or dangerous blood sugar spikes.
Popular mouthwash solutions include ingredients that kill good and bad bacterial. Most of these antibacterial ingredients in mouthwash are not selective- they do not target specific oral bacteria-instead, these ingredients can act on a broad range of bacteria.
Researchers looked at overweight people who were at risk of developing diabetes. Over the study period, around 17 per cent developed diabetes or pre-diabetes, but that rose to 20 per cent for those using mouthwash once a day, and 30 per cent for those using it in the morning and evening.
Helpful bacteria in the mouth can protect against obesity and diabetes, as it helps the body produce nitric oxide. This important molecule helps trillions of our cells to communicate with each other by transmitting signals throughout the entire body and regulates insulin levels and our metabolism. Commonly-used mouthwashes typically contain powerful bacteria-killing formulas including cetylpyridinium chloride, chlorhexidine, triclosan, alcohol, fluoride, peroxide and essential oils. However, the researchers warn killing off good helpful bacteria also makes room for harmful bacteria to thrive.

How cosmetics harm the skin
Cosmetics also known as makeup are substances used to change the appearance of the body. Common cosmetics are face powder, lipstick, nail polish, mascara, eye shadow, skin cleansers and skin lotions.
Some of the chemicals used to make cosmetics are not safe for human skin. Some non toxic cosmetics are toxic because of the adverse effects experienced by different users of the products.
Researchers discovered that some personal care products that can cause skin cancer are baby products, hair care, tattoos and skincare. Some of the toxic chemicals in cosmetics are Paraben, Triclosan, Toluene, Fragrance and Propyleneglycol.
Skin is equivalent to mouth, don't put on your skin what you can not put in your mouth. Chemicals absorbed through the skin does not pass through the gut, it will go directly to the bloodstream. Always consider your skin health before applying cosmetics on it.

Triclosan causes antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance AMR is the ability of a microorganism like bacteria, to prevents an antimicrobial like
antibiotics and antiviral from working against it. This prevents standard treatment and infections may continue to spread.
Triclosan is an ingredient added to many consumer products like soap and toothpaste to reduce or prevent bacteria. Bacteria like E. coli has become more resistant to triclosan.
Triclosan is found in domestic products for cleaning. The link between quinolone and triclosan resistance is important as triclosan has become common in the environment and human tissues.
Quinolone resistance mutation changed how bacteria arrange their DNA in a cell and these mutants had also turned on various self-defence mechanisms.
Using of bleach, soap and water after disinfectants may be more effective because some of the antimicrobial ingredients for disinfectants are gathered in the environment where they are altering ecosystems and promoting selection of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
