Infertility increases the risk of untimely death

According to a new study, infertility increases a woman's chance of untimely death compared to women who have had children. Having fertility problems also raised the chance of getting breast cancer and diabetes.

Having children protects women from untimely death, research shows that giving birth has a rejuvenating effect on a woman's body, being infertile may be a sign of underlying health problems, which may worsen overall health.

Women were classed as infertile, if they had reported being unable to conceive for one year. Female infertility patients had a higher risk of death from hormone related disorders such as breast cancer and diabetes.

Infertility was not linked to higher rates of ovarian cancer, or cancers of the womb. And even though the incidence of diabetes was similar in fertile and infertile women, infertile women experienced an increased risk of death from endocrine related diseases.

Having a baby is protective for health. Looking at the studies of women who have never given birth to children, they are at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and several malignancies. Sharing blood with a growing fetus rejuvenates the mother's blood.

Progesterone does not prevent preterm birth

Progesterone pessaries are sometimes prescribed to pregnant women who have previously given birth before 37 weeks, who have risk of another preterm birth.

Based on earlier evidence, it was thought that the treatment could delay birth, reducing the risk and severity of complications affecting babies born too early, and improve mothers' health.

Researchers gave progesterone pressies to pregnant women for 14 weeks starting at mid-pregnancy and give another group matching placebos.
Researchers then assessed the health of the babies and their mothers.

The rate of health problems in the babies, including respiratory distress syndrome, where the baby struggles to breathe, was not significantly different between the two treatment groups. The mother's health and side effects of treatment were also similar.

Babies born preterm carry a heightened risk of breathing problems due to immature lungs and other serious health problems. Progesterone plays an important role during pregnancy, and concentrations of this hormone fall away just before labour begins, which is one rationale for the treatment. Vaginal progesterone does not improve the baby's health when given to women who have had a history of a previous preterm birth.

Working for long hours causes irregular heartbeat

According to the latest research, working more than 55 hours a week increases the risk of developing serious heart problems.

Long hours of work increases the risk of irregular heartbeat by 40 per cent than those that work for normal hours or less while long shifts increase the risk of stroke.

Atrial fibrillation is the most common heart rhythm problem, it is affecting many people and can lead to stroke, heart failure and dementia. Researchers discovered that long working hours are associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation.

Common cause of cardiovascular disease are older age, male sex, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, overweight, smoking and sedentary lifestyle.

Mother's weight increases the risk of birth defects

Risk of birth defects increases with the mother's weight. Researchers tracked 1.2 million births, and discovered that baby's risk of having birth defect increases as mother's weight goes up.

Researchers analysed data on births between 2001 and 2014, they discovered that being overweight increased the risk of birth defects including heart problems, defects of the limbs, genital problems, urinary issues, digestive problems and malformed nervous systems.

According to pediatricians, risks of any major congenital malformation and several subgroups of organ specific malformations progressively increased with maternal overweight. Women
of reproductive age should adopt a healthy lifestyle and obtain a normal body weight before conception.
